My purse was missing for 3 hours last night. Someone could have copied down my social security number for their own use. How can I put an alert on the number in case someone else tries to open accounts with it?

The first answer is right.
You can go to annual credit report. com
to put fraud alerts on each bureau.

You place fraud alerts on your credit records at the three credit bureaus. Do NOT carry your Social Security card around with you – it should be stored in a safe place.
